Thrift Shop resumed and other community news from St. John’s
Saint John’s Episcopal Church is resuming more of its ministries and celebrations!
The Thrift Shop has resumed its welcoming work on Wednesdays and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., when we are open for sales and donations. Come and find a hidden treasure, or drop off some of your own! (The shop will be closed Saturday, May 29 for Memorial Day.)
The Food Pantry for people in need is on the first Saturday of the month. Our offerings include fresh fruits and vegetables, eggs, breads as well as non-perishables and toiletries. We recently received a large donation of Girl Scout Cookies, too. If you would like to volunteer to prepare these packages for our neighbors, we meet the day before at 11 a.m. in our gym to unload and package. Or if you need some food to stretch your food budget, stop by. We have no formal eligibility requirements to receive these provisions.
Pastries and Coffee in the garden: On all Saturdays from 9 to noon, we offer free coffee and pastry, which can be enjoyed in our garden. Come and meet your neighbors, or arrange to meet a friend here—the coffee and pastry are on us!
And for the children, our Story Walk features All Things Bright and Beautiful, the classic children’s hymn written by Cecil Frances Alexander, and here illustrated by Anna Vojtech. Lushly detailed paintings follow two children and their frisky pup through a bucolic landscape of meadows, hills, rivers, streams, and woods. Throughout the seasons, the youngsters explore and enjoy the wealth of treasures to be found -- things bright and beautiful, great and small, wise and wonderful. Enjoy this book with the children, along the fence of Saint John’s “bright and beautiful” garden.
Saint John’s garden will also be on Troy’s Hidden Garden Tour, on Thursday, June 10th (click here for more information).
The Church has been gathering for worship, in-person and live-streamed, since September, with the exception of a month this winter, when the COVID numbers increased.
Saint John’s is located at 146 First Street.
